Construction staff updated the board on athletic-facility projects and the Westwood Elementary reconstruction estimate.
The presentation said a contractor proposal for Springdale’s new covered bleacher system came in at between $750,000 and $800,000, including a roof and integrated percussion platform. District staff said they will perform site preparation and demolition internally, then hire a bleacher company for system installation and have district electricians complete power and lighting, which staff estimate will save roughly $400,000 compared with a fully contracted approach.
Officials said the district is coordinating with CORE architect and the construction manager for the Harbor High bleachers, where site elevation differences require different planning. Westwood Elementary remains in the estimating and value-engineering phase; contractors have identified potential cost-saving options and staff said they will revise drawings and return with updated schedules.
Construction presenters told the board they expect to meet deadlines in time for football season and that they are adding extra electrical capacity to allow future installation of fans without an electrical service upgrade.
Next steps: staff will firm up schedules and cost estimates and return to the board with updated timelines and budget figures.
