Galena Park ISD provides construction update on 2016 and 2024 bond programs
Summary
Director Ed Martir updated trustees on construction progress tied to the 2016 and 2024 bond programs, reporting slabs poured, steel erection progressing, window frames installed (awaiting glass) and gym glazing expected within two weeks; waterproofing and plaster finishes were described for exterior work.
Trustees received a facilities update on Jan. 12 covering projects funded by the district's 2016 and 2024 bond programs.
Ed Martir, director for facilities, planning and construction, described recent work at an active construction site: "We have poured a slab over the bridal, and we have steel going up ... By the end of the week, we should have two thirds of the steel, the primary members up. And by next week, all of it should be done." He said crews scheduled noisier activities after school to limit disruption to students, that window frames are in and glass installation is pending, and the gym is expected to receive its glazing in the next two weeks.
Martir also described waterproofing work and a planned plaster finish for an exterior corner. He provided photographs and progress notes, saying progress had accelerated recently with additional steel deliveries and crane placement.
The update was presented during the business portion of the meeting and followed by public motions and consent items tied to construction and finance. Trustees did not identify changes to the bond scope during the presentation.
Next steps: staff will continue to provide construction progress updates and financial reports on bond program status at future board meetings.
