Galena Park ISD honors trustees, student performers and North Shore football state champions

Trustees received formal recognitions at the Jan. 12 board meeting as the district observed Board Recognition Month and celebrated student and staff accomplishments.

Laura Alvarado, community liaison for Commissioner Adrian Garcia's office, presented certificates and thanked trustees for their service. "We are here to recognize all of you board directors, acknowledge you for the school board recognition month," she said.

Frank Gonzales, director of special projects for U.S. Rep. Sylvia Garcia, presented congressional certificates of recognition and praised trustees for leadership that "helps ensure that students receive a high quality education." The meeting also included proclamations and resolutions from local officials and state legislators; copies of the items were provided to trustees.

The board spotlight featured a video of messages from campus principals thanking trustees for their support. The meeting then acknowledged several campus achievements: North Shore Senior High's band received the Earl D. Irons Program of Distinction award; social studies and geography bee winners were called to the stage; and the North Shore Mustangs varsity football team was honored for winning the 2025 UIL 6A Division I state championship.

District staff, coaches, trainers, students and volunteers were recognized on stage and with group photographs. Administrators said a commemorative scrapbook prepared by the communications department would be distributed to trustees.

The recognitions and spotlight were presented before the business portion of the meeting; trustees and staff exchanged thanks and the board proceeded to the business agenda.
