Jefferson City Schools report rising scores, construction progress and honor student 'champions'

Superintendent McGraw and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Beaulieu gave the Jefferson City School Board an update on district operations, construction projects and academic metrics during the regular meeting.
McGraw highlighted community and extracurricular activity following the holiday break, including well-attended holiday showcases and tournaments hosted by Jefferson City. He described construction progress at the new Jefferson City Activity Center (JCAC, formerly the Southwest Early Childhood Center), conversion of the old middle-school library into classrooms, and removal of trailers used earlier for classroom space. McGraw credited staff and named individuals for helping with logistics and hosting visiting teams, and announced a district job fair scheduled for the coming Saturday.
Dr. Beaulieu presented the district’s school improvement metrics and strategic priorities. "Our APR total score has increased, to 85.2 this past year from 70.9 in 2022," he said, and noted the district has moved out of the lowest "approaching" category in math but remains in "approaching" for science. He said combined unit-assessment proficiency averaged 46% this year (the district’s goal is 50%) and described efforts to align unit assessments with state MAP and EOC testing. Beaulieu also reported improvement in staff professional growth measures — from about 40% favorable in 2018 to 68% currently — and reiterated plans to use teacher and parent surveys to guide professional learning and family engagement strategies. Attendance goals were described as rising: 78.5% in 2022, 81.6% in 2025, and 84.8% in the current school year so far.
The board recognized three student champions — Jet Love (Capital City High School), Neil Zhang (Jefferson City High School), and Damien McLaughlin (Jefferson City High School) — for academic performance, extracurricular achievements and community involvement. Each student’s academic record, extracurriculars and postsecondary plans were summarized by the presenter.
Board members thanked staff for progress and noted continued attention to science scores and unit-assessment alignment moving into the school year.
