The Kenai City Council adopted Resolution 2026-01 on Jan. 7, 2026, which amends the city's schedule of rates, charges and fees for city league participation. Vice Mayor Askin moved adoption; the motion was adopted by unanimous consent.
Parks and Recreation staff explained the change responds to participant requests for a simpler fee structure. As presented by the parks staff, the previous structure used a separate team fee and an individual fee to both hold players accountable and cover league costs. Staff said eliminating the team fee while increasing the individual participation fee keeps revenue "roughly" the same: "We're making the same amount of revenue roughly," Parks staff said.
City Manager confirmed the intent was to simplify fees and noted the change largely "becomes a wash financially" for the city. Council members expressed support for the simplification, saying removing the team fee makes it easier for participants to sign up.
Resolution 2026-01 was adopted; the transcript did not include numeric fee amounts or the effective date in the text of the discussion.
