Council approves consent items; library volunteer seeks continued event-center fee waivers

The Keizer City Council adopted the consent calendar Jan. 5, which included minutes approvals, a waterline replacement contract, and an event-center use fee waiver for Keizer Community Library summer reading performances. Council also accepted the Volunteer Coordinating Committee’s recommendation and appointed James Merrill to Position 5 on the Keizer Public Arts Commission for a term expiring 06/30/2026.
At public comment, library volunteer BJ Towey described rising library use and asked that the city continue past fee waivers for the summer reading program and a bilingual Dia del Niño event that previously drew over 100 attendees. "Our attendance...the number of people who have library cards continues to rise," Towey said, noting the library relies on donated books and community programming to sustain reading programs.
The consent calendar passed unanimously.
