The Lafayette City board voted to award and contract a $2,636,814.78 road construction and intersection improvement project at the Lafayette Steel site to Reath Riley Construction.
City Engineer Jeremy Grenard told the board that bids opened Dec. 16 and the city’s consultant, Lock Mueller, identified Reath Riley as the lowest responsive bidder. Grenard recommended that the board approve the notice of award, execute the contract in the same amount and issue a notice to proceed effective immediately.
During discussion, board members asked about the project timeline. Grenard said the work is “probably gonna take the majority of the summer” with anticipated completion in the fall, and that the city planned to proceed promptly once the contract and notice to proceed were approved.
The Chair called for a motion to approve the notice of award; an unidentified board member moved, the motion was seconded and the board approved the award by voice vote. The board then approved the contract and separately approved a notice to proceed, each by voice vote.
The board did not record a roll-call vote or an alternative bidder in the public discussion. The resolution of contract administration, insurance, bonding and other contract-specific terms were not read aloud in the meeting materials and were not specified on the record.
The board’s approvals authorize the engineering team and city staff to finalize contract execution and begin construction activities under the city’s procurement and contracting processes.
