Castle Park play structure replacement gets funding, volunteer build set for April

The City Council approved two resolutions authorizing construction agreements and funding for the Castle Park Place play-structure replacement project, and staff announced a volunteer build scheduled for April 7–12.
Park planner Hannah Perez presented the project scope: site clearing and grading before the community build, demolition and replacement of an ADA-noncompliant sidewalk segment along Pruitt Drive, stubbed electrical and potable-water utilities for a future restroom, and post-build installation of engineered safety surfacing. Granite Construction agreed to perform the concrete pavement work and donate half the concrete; KYA is proposed for site work and safety-surfacing installation via a cooperative purchasing agreement (CMAS).
Projected project totals were presented: design subtotal $158,835, playground materials $379,438, construction subtotal $462,169 for a project total of about $1,001,229 including contingency. Funding breakdown includes $800,000 in parks and recreation equipment/capital funds (projected spend $716,063), a Measure A appropriation request of $135,201, and nonprofit/donation support via Folsom Kids Play for Generations for about $149,965.
Council members praised inclusion of utilities stub for a future restroom and the collaborative funding approach. Staff said the play structure build will be community-led with many volunteer shifts already signed; final safety surfacing and punch-list work will continue after the community build, with a target to open by the end of April.
Two resolutions authorizing contracts with Granite Construction (concrete work, not to exceed $72,356; Measure A appropriation $79,529 including contingency) and KYA (site work, not to exceed $308,309) were moved, seconded, and approved by roll call.
