At-large councilmembers Dion Foster (Position 9) and Alexis Mercedes Rink (Position 8) were sworn in during the Jan. 6 Seattle City Council meeting. Foster’s oath was administered by his son, Miles Foster Cundiff, and Rink’s oath was administered by Bilon Aden, cofounder and vice president of African Community Housing and Development.
Speaking after the oath, Foster described his connection to Seattle and said he would focus on affordable housing, safer streets and reliable transit. He framed his service as rooted in lived experience and emphasized constituent service. Rink, in remarks after her oath, recounted her path from working downtown and organizing to passing measures she described as progressive wins, citing passage of a progressive tax to fund social housing and the Seattle Shield initiative; she also emphasized transit improvements such as the Better Bus Lanes campaign.
Both new councilmembers thanked supporters, staff and unions and committed to constituent engagement. A short reception was announced following the meeting.
