Planning commissioners continue work compiling historic-district guidelines and resources

At the end of the Jan. 6 meeting commissioners reviewed progress on historic-district guidelines and a compilation of relevant documents from other jurisdictions to inform local design standards.
Commissioner Alyssa presented a trimmed list of jurisdictions and documents useful for drafting local guidelines and requested staff assistance in posting links or locations for the documents so the public and commission can access them. Commissioners discussed next steps, including creating a checklist for historic-design review and consolidating references for staff and public use.
Staff (Carol Kendrick) said she maintains a planning pipeline and will provide regular updates to commissioners and will work to make the compiled resources accessible through the Planning Commission packet or website. Commissioners and public commenters urged improved advance notice of complex agenda items and easier access to materials; staff agreed to share a weekly pipeline of items the department expects to bring forward.
Next steps: Staff will add document links where available, provide regular pipeline notifications to commissioners, and continue work on draft historic-design guidelines and checklists for future meetings.
