Charleston County Council elects Joe Boykin as chair, Kabrowski as vice chair

Charleston County Council voted to install Joe Boykin as chair and Kabrowski as vice chair during an organizational action on the agenda. Council closed nominations, called a roll call and announced the result: the Boykin/Kabrowski slate prevailed over an alternate Middleton/Worman slate.

The contest began when an unidentified speaker moved a slate nominating Boykin for chair and Kobrovsky/Kabrowski for vice chair and moved to close nominations; another speaker nominated Councilman Middleton and Mister Wareman as an alternate ticket. The clerk conducted a roll-call vote with each member stating their preferred slate. Members who voiced “Boykin and Kabrowski” recorded votes for the Boykin slate; others recorded votes for “Middleton and Worman.”

During the roll call the responses recorded were: Boykin (Boykin/Kabrowski); Darby (Middleton/Worman); Honeycutt (Boykin/Kabrowski); Kabrowski (Boykin/Kabrowski); Moody (Boykin/Kabrowski); Pryor (Middleton/Worman); Sass (Boykin/Kabrowski); Worman (Middleton/Worman); Middleton (Middleton/Worman). That sequence produced five verbal votes for Boykin/Kabrowski and four for Middleton/Worman. The presiding officer announced, “The chairman, and vice chairman are mister Boykin and mister Kobrowski.”

In his opening remarks as chair, Boykin recognized former Chairman Middleton’s service, saying, “Well, for my first act as chairman, the first thing I wanna do is recognize Chairman Middleton's service and leadership over the last year.” Members exchanged congratulations and brief comments about working together in 2026. The council adjourned following those remarks.
