Modesto City Council unanimously approves multiple appointments and a consent calendar with several multi‑million dollar contract actions

Council members voted to appoint Steven Zagaris to the Citizens Salary Setting Commission to fill a partial term through Dec. 31, 2026; to reappoint Marshall Riddle and appoint Odell Toe to the Board of Zoning Adjustment (terms expiring Dec. 31, 2029); and to reappoint Mark Farish to the Landmark Preservation Commission (term expiring Dec. 31, 2029). The council also approved the reappointment of Craig Lewis to the Stanislaus Council of Governments (StanCOG) Measure L citizens oversight committee, and the appointments of Carolyn Newman to the Measure L Citizens Transportation Sales Tax Commission and three members to the Culture Commission. The council confirmed three members to the Golf Courses Advisory Committee, including a youth member, two at-large members and a reappointment to represent the Dryden Women’s Golf Club.
Motion and roll-call procedures were recorded in the meeting: the appointment of Steven Zagaris was moved by Council member Wright and seconded by Vice Mayor Williams and carried on a unanimous aye vote. Subsequent appointment motions were likewise moved and seconded and passed unanimously.
The consent calendar (items 8–20) was read into the record and approved by unanimous vote. Major items on consent included: awarding a construction contract for sport lighting at three parks to Bachman and Woody Electric Co., not to exceed $327,828; accepting the downtown signal coordination project and releasing final payments totaling $1,307,037; accepting the Paradise area pedestrian and bicycle safety improvement project and releasing payments totaling $9,108,764; and increasing combined agreement amounts for generator repair and preventative maintenance services by $1,070,064. Several other professional services and procurement agreements were approved with multi‑year totals noted in the agenda.
The approvals position city advisory bodies with full membership and clear terms and allow staff to proceed with the listed procurement and construction actions. The council adjourned after routine council reports.
