Camarillo recognizes 2025 CERT graduates; county instructors praised

Mayor Tennyson presented certificates to the 2025 Community Emergency Response Team graduates at the Jan. 12 Camarillo City Council and Camarillo Sanitary District meeting, thanking volunteers and Ventura County Fire Department staff for their work supporting local emergency response.
The mayor described the six-week CERT course and said the program "prepares volunteers to help themselves, their families, and their neighbors when an emergency happens." Instructors (transcribed) Bridal Pasqua and firefighter Nick Hyatt addressed the council and graduates. Hyatt said he has taught the course "close to 4 years" and praised the most recent class for their effort and motivation. A graduate who had taken the class three times called it "the best class I've taken."
Council members also commended the program. Council member Santangelo noted Camarillo's high volunteer rate in Ventura County and called the training a meaningful investment in community resilience. Council member Tremblay and others thanked staff and volunteers and invited continued participation and partnership with local colleges and first responders.
No formal council directives or votes were taken during the presentation segment; the recognition concluded before the public-comment period began.
