Residents press Stanislaus supervisors on contaminated water in Riverdale Park Tract; board points to infrastructure plans

At the Jan. 13 Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors meeting, Bianca Lopez delivered a packet and asked what immediate steps are being taken after the Riverdale Park Tract Community Services District reported chemicals in its water at notification levels. Lopez said residents are concerned about long-term exposure and asked whether residents are notified beyond annual consumer confidence reports.
A supervisor said the county has prioritized infrastructure investment in that area using ARPA funds and has been working with Self-Help Enterprises and the City of Modesto to extend city water and sewer service into the neighborhood. “We are in the process of that,” a supervisor said, noting the county has allocated funds to bring curbs, gutters, sidewalks and water line connections and that a permanent fix is forthcoming.
Staff acknowledged routine well treatment occurs when tests show problems and said interim measures have been used historically; the board committed to follow up and coordinate with the Community Services District. Lopez emphasized health impacts and urged clear resident notification and interim supports until the permanent connection is complete.
