Jan Stoffer, director of facilities and collections at the Better Works Center/Dear Wyman House, told the Davenport Historic Preservation Commission on Jan. 13 that the center will offer a series of free trainings about historic preservation for commissioners and the public.
The program is scheduled to run monthly in April, May, June and July on the third Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Dear Wyman House. Stoffer said the sessions will pair a webinar showing in the first hour with a brief break and a facilitated local discussion so attendees can share experiences and lessons learned. "These are all free ... and as I mentioned, they're open to the public," Stoffer said.
Registration is not yet open and a website link is still "to be determined," Stoffer said; commissioners asked whether sessions would be recorded, and Stoffer said she did not plan to record them because the goal is to build a regional community of preservationists and facilitate live discussion. Staff and commissioners welcomed the series and suggested that commissioners who attend could briefly report back to the commission under communications.
Stoffer said partner cities (for example, Moline) may list the sessions on their commissioner schedules so that quorum issues are addressed in advance; she also said the Dear Wyman House can accommodate small breakout discussions.
