The Wilson County Board of Education opened its Jan. 12 meeting with recognitions and district updates.

Shannon Campbell, a teacher at Wilson Early College Academy, was recognized as the district teacher of the year and as the 2026 North Central Region teacher of the year. Faison highlighted district accomplishments, including a reported graduation class of 807 seniors in 2025 receiving about $6.3 million in scholarships and the district’s highest state rating to date (reported as 30th of 115 school districts). She also noted reconstruction and a rededication at Springfield Middle following tornado damage and thanked the board for support.
Dr. Mills and board members also recognized the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club at Wilson Academy of Applied Technology. Presenters praised advisors Glenda Davis and Kathleen Stuckey and said 16 students competed at the Northeast Regional Competition; 12 qualified for state competition and several students placed in their divisions.
Dr. Mills closed his remarks with condolences to the family of former Governor Jim Hunt for his passing and described Hunt’s contributions to education.
