The district's School Safety Director told the board the schools recorded 577 incidents in the 2024–25 year that required an operational response — from crisis team activation to law enforcement or EMS — and conducted 179 evidence‑based CSTAG threat assessments last year.

“These threats include expressions of intent to harm or kill somebody,” the safety director said, adding that assessments are performed by multidisciplinary teams and involve law enforcement when necessary. The department reported that standard response protocols were initiated over 246 times, including 67 drills.

The presentation also reviewed recent security equipment installed at Albany High: walk‑through detectors and bag scanners intended to speed morning entry and reduce manual searches. The safety director said the equipment was implemented on Dec. 10 and that staff observed smooth operation after initial adjustments.

Board members asked about false positives and manual bag checks; the director said operators can reorient items on the scanner and perform a secondary hand check when the machine raises questions, and that staff procedures aim to minimize students waiting outdoors during a check.
