Summary
At the meeting the board approved minutes, elected James Higginbotham president and James Edda vice president, adopted a January 2026 recognition resolution, approved Head Start’s annual report and approved the program’s internal dispute-resolution policy; a possible special election to authorize an ad valorem tax was announced.
The Acadia Parish School Board conducted routine business and approved several measures during its meeting. After calling the meeting to order and completing opening ceremonies, the board approved the Dec. 9, 2025 minutes by voice vote following a motion attributed to Mister James Higginbotham and seconded by Mister Jones.
The board then held elections for board officers. Mister James Higginbotham was nominated and selected to serve as board president for a one-year term; Miss James Edda was nominated and selected as vice president. The outgoing presiding officer indicated Higginbotham will take over leadership at the next meeting.
The board considered and adopted a recognition resolution declaring January 2026 as Louisiana School Board Member Recognition Month and approved a board code of conduct aligned with board policy; board members posed for a photo for publicity. The board also announced plans to consider a resolution ordering a special election in Acadia Parish to authorize an ad valorem tax for school purposes; the board set a public meeting to consider that resolution for Feb. 3, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. at the district’s central office in Crowley.
On program items, the board reviewed and approved Head Start’s annual report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025, and accepted a recommendation to approve Head Start’s internal dispute-resolution (impasse) policy; both items were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The meeting concluded after brief consent‑agenda items, a review of December sales-tax receipts and a motion to adjourn.
