Board approves purchase of 95 acres for parks fund at about $1 million

The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 13 approved a parks acquisition of about 95 acres near Mount Madonna Road, funded by the county’s voter‑established park charter fund.
Parks Director Todd Lofgren and the county’s real property agent explained that the park charter fund is distinct from the general fund and that the charter requires the parks department to spend a portion of the fund on land acquisition. Staff said the purchase price would be charged to the park charter fund and that acquiring the land advances trail connectivity, public access and wildlife protection in Uvas Canyon/Morgan Hill area.
The board praised the parks staff for the work, noted the acquisition price equated to roughly $10,000 per acre by their calculation, and voted 4–0 to approve the purchase. No members of the public spoke in opposition at the Jan. 13 hearing.
