Riverview Center asks Bremer County for $500 increase to expand training and victim services

"We served 39 individuals last year, in this county," Paige said during the board's budget work session. The additional dollars, she said, would go largely to training and awareness: more opportunities to train law enforcement and to expand school-based prevention efforts as new challenges emerge.
Sam, a colleague at Riverview, described the center's work across 14 Iowa counties and said local contributions help fill gaps when other partners run out of funding or capacity. Sam highlighted a multi-disciplinary sexual-assault response team and an investigations training for law enforcement scheduled for next week, calling the training an example of the county investment's leverage.
Supervisors asked how the 14-county service area aligns with Bremer County funding. Riverview said some counties contribute to specific line items while others fund different programs; the packet presented to supervisors reflected only the counties that contributed to the items listed for FY26. Riverview added it prioritizes connecting clients to local resources first and providing gap funding only when necessary.
The request was entered into the county's budget process for further consideration; no final appropriation was recorded on the record at the meeting.
