Board Reviews HR Policy Revisions Including Conduct, Confidentiality and New Consolidated Policy
Summary
Dr. Burris presented revisions to human-resources policies, including a governance code of conduct acknowledgment, consolidated conduct/discipline language (policy 317) with added confidentiality and nonprofessional-relationship provisions, and a brand-new consolidated policy presented as a first reading.
The combined committees reviewed several human-resources policy updates Monday that staff plan to bring to committee and the full board in coming weeks.
Dr. Burris said Policy 011 (governance code of conduct) was placed on the table for board members to acknowledge and sign for 2026. He described Policy 317, a consolidation of conduct and disciplinary procedures that adds language to reinforce that nonprofessional relationships with students are prohibited and codifies breach-of-confidentiality reporting; the policy aligns referenced legal text at the back of the document.
Dr. Burris also introduced a brand-new consolidated policy (presented as a first reading) that gathers scattered rules into a single reference. He encouraged board members to review redlined language, email suggested edits and be prepared for HR-committee discussion in February. The P D E 6004 arrest-and-conviction reporting form was noted as the procedural reference for required notifications.
Board members asked for cross-references between related policies and clarity on familial relationships and training; staff said the related language will be reviewed and coordinated with unions and policy 824 where appropriate.
Next steps: staff will take board feedback, coordinate with unions, and return policy language for committee and full-board consideration in the February cycle.
