City manager reports ISO rating upgrade, community events and upcoming election filing dates

In his report the city manager thanked staff for recent accomplishments and provided calendar and administrative updates.
Staff recognized dozens of long-serving employees and noted that the city's comprehensive annual financial report earned a regional award. The city learned it was improving its ISO insurance rating from Class 3 to Class 2, a shift staff said reflected strong fire, EMS and public works performance and will affect insurance considerations for property owners.
The manager also announced community programming: a senior center fashion show on January 8, a city tree giveaway on January 18 (residents must show proof of residency), Mardi Gras celebration at the senior center on January 21, and a Touch-a-Truck event at Friendswood High School on January 24. He closed with election reminders: city council seats for positions 2 and 5 will be on the May 2 ballot; first day to file is Jan. 14 and the last day is Feb. 13.
Council did not take separate action on these informational items.
