Summary
At its Jan. 13 meeting the Fuquay Varina Planning Board swore in two new members, Nanda Brown and Tommy Pate, and appointed Nolan Perry as acting chair for the remainder of the meeting while the vice chair election was postponed.
The Fuquay Varina Planning Board on Jan. 13, 2026, administered the oath of office to two new members and named Planning Board member Nolan Perry as acting chair for the meeting.
Eva (staff) administered the oath, prompting the new members to pledge to support the constitutions of the United States and North Carolina and to "faithfully discharge the duties" of their office. The board’s moderator explained Chair Brett Johnson was unable to attend and moved the swearing-in to the start of the agenda so new members could be present.
The newly sworn members are Nanda Brown and Tommy Pate. The moderator introduced Brown as joining the board with experience as a retired business planner and introduced Tommy Pate as having prior service on the Apex Planning Board with traffic‑engineering experience. The moderator also acknowledged returning members Nolan Perry and Brent Johnson, and noted Jeff Stevens was promoted from alternate to an in‑town member.
Because no vice chair has been elected, the board moved to appoint Nolan Perry as acting chair for the remainder of the Jan. 13 meeting. The motion to appoint Perry was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The board then voted to table the nomination and election of a vice chair until the next scheduled meeting.
The meeting proceeded with public hearings and land‑use items after the swearing‑in and the interim chair appointment.
