Chair Ron Walker outlined four pillars—community engagement, building relationships, community enrichment and advocacy—and highlighted the MLK celebration (Performing Arts & Events Center, 10:30 a.m. start), a community festival (August) and a book-donation program that reached all elementary schools in the prior year. The commission requested authorization to forward its $25,000 annual work plan to the consent agenda, which the committee approved for forwarding.
Council members asked about volunteer needs, survey access (paper and QR codes), sponsorships and whether elected officials could participate in listening sessions. The commission said the survey is intended to surface topics for community listening sessions and that outreach will include paper surveys for people who are not tech-enabled. The MLK celebration will be free, run roughly 10:30 a.m.–12:15 p.m., and commissioners said they expect robust attendance and volunteer support.
