Wayne County grants bring $150,000 to Taylor nonprofits for youth sports and conservatory pavilion

Commissioner Alex Garza told the City Council on Jan. 6 that Wayne County awarded $180,000 to District 14 under the Wayne County Community Impact Initiative, and that two Taylor organizations would receive funds.
Taylor North Little League will receive $50,000, which Doug, a representative of the league, said will allow the organization to "offer free registration for every registered child at Taylor North this year," reducing financial strain for families and helping expand enrollment.
The Taylor Conservatory Foundation will receive $100,000 to rehabilitate and expand the pavilion on the conservatory grounds. Kyle, representing the conservatory, introduced board president Terry Fritz and described the project as a milestone for the Botanical Gardens’ 20th anniversary: "This project is really gonna help us grow, help us really strive further for the next 20 years." Garza said the county award is part of a $180,000 district allocation and recalled prior work obtaining state funds when he served as a state representative.
Both organizations thanked Garza and councilmembers for support. Council acknowledged the presentations and recessed to other agenda business following the remarks.
