Summary
The Troy City Board approved a five-year renewal levy to appear on the May ballot, reapproved tax rates certified by the county, accepted donations totaling $9,074.65 for the month, and approved routine financial and personnel items including three delivered buses. The Troy City Board of Education voted on Jan. 26, 2026 to move forward with a five-year renewal levy and to reapprove the district’s tax rates as certified by the Miami County budget commission.
Board members approved a resolution to submit the district’s alternative tax document for county review and determined to proceed with placing a renewal levy on the May ballot. Staff described the levy as a renewal intended to maintain the district’s 20-mil effective floor and repeatedly characterized it as "no new taxes." The resolution and updated certification sheets from the county auditor were presented as exhibits in the board packet.
In related business the board received the monthly financial report and discussed the district’s bus procurement. Staff reported that three buses were received in December and that payment will be processed in January; the district normally plans for delivery of three buses per school year and uses a cooperative EPC bid process to obtain base pricing.
The board also approved a "then and now" certificate under Ohio law to permit post-certification of funds when prior certification was not obtained, accepted monetary and in-kind donations (monthly total $9,074.65; year-to-date $77,002.76, including a $6,000 donation from the American Legion), and approved routine consent items including out-of-state Pop Rocks trips and personnel actions listed in Exhibit I. Roll-call votes were recorded for the motions.
The board discussed county and state timing for tax-billing updates and noted possible adjustments when the county completes its calculations; staff said any necessary credits or changes would be processed after tax bills are mailed.
