The Township of Ocean Board of Education on Jan. 6 certified the results of the Nov. 4, 2025 school election, administered oaths to newly elected trustees and elected Gerard Dalton as board president and Amy McGovern as vice president.
The board chair read the certified totals from the Monmouth County Board of Elections: John D. Covert received 6,585 votes; Scott Brady received 6,574 votes; Amy McGovern received 7,361 votes; and there were 177 write-ins. "The official results of the annual school election" were announced before the board administered the oath of office to three members.
Miss McCarthy nominated Gerard Dalton for president; after nominations were closed the board voted by roll call and recorded unanimous support. Miss McCarthy nominated Dalton at the meeting and members including Mister Brady, Mister Covert, Missus Dan, Mister Dalton, Missus Gilman, Miss McCarthy, Missus McGovern, Mister Schneider and Miss Stevens were recorded voting "Yes." After the vote the presiding member offered brief thanks to colleagues.
Dalton then opened nominations for vice president and nominated Amy McGovern; after the roll-call vote the board elected McGovern by unanimous vote. "Thank you," McGovern said after being sworn and elected vice president.
Mister Hastings presented agenda items 4.1 through 4.5 and asked for a motion to approve. A board member moved and another seconded; the board voted by roll call with all members recorded as "Yes," and the motion carried to approve the listed consent items.
Public comment was solicited under the board’s rules (five-minute limit, not a Q&A) but no members of the public spoke in person or virtually. The meeting concluded after a motion to adjourn was made and the presiding officer closed the session.
The reorganization procedures, oath wording and voting followed the local notice and statutory references read into the record.
