At their Tuesday meeting the Mitchell County Board of Supervisors approved several routine administrative and financial items and moved a contentious pipeline zoning question to the planning and zoning commission for drafting.
The board approved an update to its Title VI assurances required for federal‑aid compliance with the Department of Transportation after a motion, second and roll‑call vote during the meeting. A subsequent motion approved the reappointment of Sandy Offen to the Board of Health and the appointment of James Meineke as a new member; the board recorded the motion and vote and the appointments passed.
Supervisors voted to increase the veterans' cemetery maintenance allowance from $5 to $10 for eligible (non‑levied) cemeteries; a roll call recorded multiple ayes and the motion carried. The auditor's quarterly report (totaling $25,090.85) and the recorder's December report (county receipts $52,006.19; county share $11,767.18) were also approved.
The board adopted three economic development grant resolutions by roll call: Resolution 1343‑26 with Stacyville Kids Care Incorporated; Resolution 1344‑26 with the city of Mitchell; and Resolution 1345‑26 with Faith Lutheran Home Corporation. During discussion one supervisor questioned using county funds for a private nursing home but the resolution was carried as recorded.
Finally, after extensive public comment on a proposed CO2 pipeline, the board voted to ask the planning and zoning commission to draft a hazardous liquid pipeline setback/zoning ordinance and scheduled the item for further consideration next week. No ordinance language was adopted at the meeting.
Minutes and staff reports filed with the board provide fiscal details and resolution numbers for public record.
