Mitchell County staff said the county will transition to a state-provided motor-vehicle kiosk and online scheduling system on Jan. 20, a change officials said will reduce no-shows and curb customers scheduling multiple appointments across counties.
Speaker 1 described the kiosk as part of a larger, multi‑year state IT project. The kiosk and statewide scheduling let residents search appointments within a 100‑mile radius and will cancel duplicate bookings when a resident confirms another county's slot. “It's gonna make it a lot more friendlier for people trying to get in,” Speaker 1 said, noting text reminders and email confirmations will accompany scheduled appointments.
Staff acknowledged a learning curve: the clerks completed training modules and the county’s IT staff installed the kiosk. Officials promised hands-on support for residents unfamiliar with smartphone-based booking and said county staff can schedule appointments on residents’ behalf. No formal policy change was adopted; staff will monitor uptake and report operational issues back to supervisors.
Closing note: the kiosk is scheduled to go live on Jan. 20 and staff plan to assist residents who need help making appointments.
