Lincoln County approves multiple grants, authorizes contracts and applications

At its Jan. 13 meeting the Lincoln County commission accepted a $515,000 portion of a $1,030,000 seed grant for a workforce and economic development project, approved grant applications to GEFA and LMIG, accepted smaller recreation and internship grants, and authorized a contract for grant management.
The Lincoln County Board of Commissioners approved or authorized several grants and project‑related actions during the Jan. 13 meeting.
The board accepted its portion ($515,000) of a $1,030,000 state economic and infrastructure seed grant awarded for renovations to the Lamar Blanchard House and the creation of a workforce and economic development center. The board also directed the county attorney to develop a contract with the development authority for grant management and authorized the chairman to sign grant documents.
Recreation staff reported Lincoln County received a Georgia Recreation and Parks Association Hawks Partnership grant for $2,380 to be used at the county recreation complex; the board accepted the funds. The board also approved an application to Firehouse Subs for a grant to purchase three stair chairs for EMS (total cost $10,536.24; county match $1,053.70) and authorized staff to apply.
Finance and community development staff were authorized to apply for larger infrastructure funding: a GEFA water grant/loan package totaling $1,300,000 (anticipated grant $1,170,000 and a low‑interest loan of $130,000 over up to 30 years) to add four groundwater wells to the county water system, and the annual LMIG (GDOT) application of $439,883.92 with a 10% local match (approximately $43,988 from T‑SPLOST) for road resurfacing. The LMIG application included a prioritized road list for possible resurfacing.
The board also accepted an Association County Commissioners of Georgia internship grant that provides up to $3,000 for a summer intern to inventory and help update county ordinances and authorized execution of related documents.
In each case the board approved motions by voice vote; in several items staff noted that final loan terms and award packages will return to the board for approval before the county commits to long‑term financing.
