Heidi Bailey, representing Bailey Metal Fab, told the board that large steel deliveries enter at the north end on 9th Street and must navigate a blind corner through the narrow alley adjacent to her property, creating a safety concern for drivers and staff. "When we have steel deliveries, they come into the north end there on 9th, and our walk-in sales are around on the west side of the office... So it's a safety issue for us," Bailey said.
Staff introduced a petition signed by all abutting landowners asking to vacate the portion of Bailey Meadow Fab Alley that borders the GHB, Sheasley and Duff Dens properties. Staff reported there are no utilities located in the section proposed for vacation. One board member asked if the city had immediate plans for the alley; staff replied no utilities or planned projects would be affected.
A board member moved to recommend approval of the street vacation and another seconded. The board called a voice vote; all indicated "aye" and the motion carried. The board did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; the action was recorded as a recommendation to approve the vacation.
The petition will proceed to the next step in the municipal process for formal adoption; the board's recommendation is advisory pending any required ordinances or further administrative steps.
