Board appoints parents, teachers and two student representatives to Education Advisory Committee

The Clark County School District Board approved Jan. 8 the recommending committee’s slate of appointments to the Education Advisory Committee. Chief Academic Officer Dustin Mansell and Christopher Carroll presented recommended members drawn from parents, teachers and professionals and noted that two positions (medicine/nursing and religion) did not reach consensus and will be refly in the application process.
Carroll said the recommending committee reviewed about 400 pages of applications, and the proposed appointments include parent and teacher representatives from multiple trustee districts. The recommending committee also proposed two nonvoting student representatives: Shay Bravo Bazar (senior, District A) and Kara McAnallen (sophomore, District E). Carroll described the committee’s role under Nevada Revised Statute 389.036: the advisory committee reviews instructional material for the health/*** education component and provides recommendations to the board.
Trustees asked whether appointed parents and members have voting authority (Carroll confirmed that each appointed member votes on the advisory committee, with the two student representatives serving as nonvoting members) and when the committee last met (2022). The board approved the appointments as presented.
