Hartland approves Pretty Please LLC liquor license and bartender application for Beer Snobs manager

The Village of Hartland board approved two alcohol-related licensing matters: a Class B beer and Class C wine license for Pretty Please LLC and a bartender license for Matthew Ballantyne, general manager of Beer Snobs.
Applicant Jenny Wictorick described Pretty Please LLC as a DIY studio hosting painting, candle-making and craft events for adults and children; she said alcohol would be offered only to on-site patrons during scheduled classes and events. The board opened a public hearing, heard no objections and approved the license by voice vote.
The board also considered a bartender application for Matthew Ballantyne. Village staff told trustees the clerk could not administratively approve the application because a prior non-alcohol-related incident (described in the application as dating to 2013 and characterized as a credit-card-fraud matter) required board consideration. Ballantyne addressed the board and said he struggled with pain-pill addiction after surgery years ago, has been sober since 2013 and is “open and honest” about his past. Trustees moved, seconded and approved his bartender license.
Both approvals were passed by voice vote. The board and staff reiterated that Pretty Please’s license is limited to on-site service during classes and events.
