Council confirms Measure S oversight members and 2026 board appointments, approves Border Coast Airport representative

The Crescent City Council approved several committee and board appointments on Jan. 7, including Measure S oversight committee reappointments and the mayor’s slate of 2026 board representatives.

During discussion of Measure S oversight committee appointments, one council member expressed concern that a volunteer firefighter serving on the oversight committee could create a perception of conflict because Measure S funds touch public‑safety budgets. The city attorney and other council members said volunteer firefighters have served previously and that advisory committee membership is not legally barred, though members must recuse themselves when a matter would directly financially affect them. After public comment supporting continued volunteer participation, the council approved reappointments of Sean, Sonia, Tayatt, Dana Reno and Ernie Perry to two‑year terms; the roll call showed one dissenting vote on the appointments.

Separately, staff presented the mayor’s recommended board and commission appointments for 2026 and noted that the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority appointment requires adoption by resolution. Following public comment about airport financial and infrastructure challenges, the council adopted Resolution 2026‑01, confirming the mayor’s appointments and naming the city’s member and alternate to the Border Coast Regional Airport Authority.

The council voted taken on these appointments were recorded in roll call votes; staff will update appointment records and proceed with the standard onboarding process for confirmed members.
