Crescent City adopts state-aligned ADU code update (Ordinance 859)

The Crescent City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 859 on Monday to update the city’s accessory dwelling unit regulations and align local zoning language with recent changes in state government code.
Staff explained the ordinance updates revise cross-references to the relocated state ADU provisions, incorporate new state definitions (including efficiency units and junior accessory dwelling units), and adjust setback and height clarifications required by the updated state rules. The council opened a public hearing, received no public comment and then voted to waive full reading and adopt the ordinance as presented.
The ordinance amendment updates chapter 17.35 of the Crescent City Municipal Code. Staff said the revisions are mandatory to maintain consistency with state law and that the city was contacted by the state housing enforcement unit regarding timing. Council members asked procedural questions but recorded no objections during the hearing.
The ordinance was adopted by voice vote with all members present voting yes. The ordinance was introduced and will be codified in the municipal code; staff will follow up on implementation and any required notifications to property owners.
