The vote followed a public hearing in which residents and commissioners discussed sequencing, demand analyses and the need to separate evaluations for tennis, pickleball and cricket. Chair Kesting moved to approve the plan and asked that the June line read as a Lifetime Tennis usage report; the motion was seconded and carried in a roll-call vote recorded by the clerk as unanimous.
The change came after department staff told the commission the existing wording could be read as an instruction to prioritize one sport over another. A parks staff member said, "that is not meant to discuss the demand or implementing new tennis or new pickleball courts; it's meant for Lifetime Tennis to come out and report on the usage at their facility." The clarification prompted commissioners to agree the wording should be adjusted so the public would not misinterpret the item as an adoption decision.
Commissioners discussed broader sequencing and data-timing issues during the hearing. Public commenter Henry Song urged the commission to decouple tennis and pickleball evaluations so each activity's demand can be assessed independently and asked for a venue analysis for cricket, saying some parks are a poor fit for that sport.
Staff and commissioners noted that, while items can be added or rescheduled during the year, items listed in the adopted work plan are not removed without following the established process. The commission also noted annual items such as the youth-and-teen program overview and tree and public-art reports are typically scheduled in the fall when data are available.
The commission approved the plan after brief discussion; the clerk recorded the vote as 5–0.
The commission will circulate the updated calendar with the clarified Lifetime Tennis entry; other items may be moved later in the year as staff and commissioners refine scheduling.
