Barrow County Schools outline strategic plan timeline after 691-survey community feedback

Deputy Superintendent Doctor Thompson reported to the board that Barrow County Schools’ strategic planning process—facilitated by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA)—has moved from community engagement to planning-team work and will soon begin action-team sessions.
Thompson said the district hosted a community feedback event with roughly 240 participants and collected 691 completed surveys. According to the presentation, about 64% of survey respondents were parents and 46% were district employees; many respondents fell into both categories. The planning team distilled broad and narrow themes that will inform strategic goal areas and performance objectives.
“We had 691 individuals complete that survey,” Doctor Thompson told board members, noting the planning team had already translated community feedback into a draft strategy map and 16 performance objectives. The draft strategy map lists five strategic goal areas: student growth and success, quality workforce, organizational effectiveness, community connection and commitment, and positive culture.
The next step is action-team meetings on Jan. 26, which GSBA will facilitate to select key performance indicators and initiatives; the district aims to bring a finalized plan to the board for review and possible adoption in April or May. Thompson emphasized transparency and repeated that the draft is a working document subject to refinement.
Board members asked about GSBA’s role in KPI selection and how the district will prioritize measures. Thompson said GSBA’s facilitation is built into the action-team agenda and that staff will work to align data and strategy through an iterative process. The presentation was informational; no vote was taken.
