The Cannon County Board of Education opened its Jan. 8 meeting with student- and staff-recognition ceremonies, celebrating students from across the district and several staf members for contributions to schools.
Miss Julie Hackney presented the student-citizen awards. "Raya consistently demonstrates kindness, respect, and responsibility in her daily actions," Hackney said when introducing Raya Acuna as the January student citizen of the month from Cannon County Elementary School. Other student honorees included Skyler Farrell (Cannon North, first grade), Ryker Moline (Cannon South) and Matthew Lujan (Cannon County), with Mackenzie McCurry representing Cannon County High School.
Miss Julie also called employees to the stage for spotlight recognition. Gina Jones and Lindsay Everett (Cannon County Elementary) were recognized as outstanding speech pathologists; Kaylee Rogers (Cannon North) and Darlene Pendergrass (Cannon South) were honored for classroom support; Jeff Tanner (Cannon County Middle School) and Coach Haley (Cannon County High School) were named spotlight employees for their dedication and positive contributions.
Board members and the director thanked staff for their roles in professional development and encouraged the community to express appreciation during School Board Appreciation Month. The recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required.
