Chickasaw County to Seek Bids to Replace Two Courthouse Electrical Panels

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on Jan. 13 voted unanimously to solicit bids to replace two electrical panels at the county courthouse following a technical presentation from county staff.
County staff described two projects: a 42-space panel in the basement to consolidate existing feeds and a 24-space panel for the machine room. Staff said the work will include pulling new No. 4 conductor wire, installing a new internal panel, and addressing grounding concerns, and emphasized that no splices will be left in attic junctions. Work will be required to take place when the courthouse is closed, at night or on weekends, and must comply with the National Electrical Code and state permit and inspection requirements.
Speaker 1, who presented the specification sheet, told supervisors that the basement panel would use a 100-amp breaker in the main distribution panel and estimated the combined cost of the two projects could range from $15,000 to $20,000, while noting one prior panel replacement on the second floor cost about $5,200. The board instructed staff to distribute bid documents to the county's seven licensed electricians and to post the invitation on the county website and courthouse bulletin board.
The board discussed bid timeline options during the meeting. Staff initially referenced a Jan. 30 deadline and a Feb. 2 bid opening; later in the discussion the presenters and board members agreed on February viewing and opening dates (staff said viewing on Feb. 6 and bids opened on Feb. 9). The board adopted a motion to seek bids for the two projects; the motion carried 4-0 with one supervisor absent.
The solicitation requires prospective bidders to view the work in person before submitting bids and states that the county reserves the right to reject any and all bids. Staff asked that contractors contact the department for site visits and added that contractors may contact the listed county phone for questions.
The next procedural step is the formal posting of the bid documents to the county website and distribution to the named local electricians; staff will return with bids at the advertised opening date.
