Council approves $38,020 contract to design ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps

The Coeur d'Alene City Council approved resolution 26-003 on Jan. 6, awarding a $38,020 professional services agreement to HMH Engineering to develop a bid package for constructing ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps tied to recent overlay projects.
Todd from the Street Department told the council staff had evaluated about 125 locations and hoped to address roughly 50 ramps this year, citing the need for detectable-warning dome installation, level turn/landing areas and slope requirements for ramp wings. “We are required to have those,” Todd said, noting some locations now lack required features and that standards can change over time.
Councilmember Gookin moved to approve the agreement; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call with all members voting in favor. Staff said they will bid the work and, if bids come in under expectations, add additional locations from the evaluation list.
Next steps: Staff will finalize the HMH scope, put the construction package out to bid, and aim to incorporate ramp work into mill-and-inlay projects where practical.
