At its Jan. 13 session, the Gardner City License Commission reviewed the status of a license transfer for Sawa Asian Cuisine and Lounge, noted an update to the commission's rules and received an advisory from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security about RV sparklers and other pyrotechnics.
Speaker 2 reported that the transfer for Sawa Asian Cuisine and Lounge was approved by the local commission and submitted to the ADCC on April 8, 2025, and that final documents were forwarded to an AVCC investigator on Nov. 18, 2025. "Continue to monitor the status," Speaker 2 said, noting the commission had completed its part in transmitting documents. The commission did not take additional formal action on the transfer at this meeting.
Speaker 2 also said the License Commission's rules and regulations were updated on Sept. 9, 2025; the meeting record contains an unclear effective-date phrasing in the transcript that should be verified with the clerk for the precise effective date. On new business, Speaker 2 introduced a state advisory from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, Department of Fire Services concerning RV sparklers and other pyrotechnics. Speaker 1 asked whether the advisory would be mailed to each licensed establishment in Gardner; Speaker 2 replied it would not be mailed and the commission noted the advisory for awareness.
The commission directed no new licensing actions during this meeting and will continue to monitor the Sawa transfer as it proceeds through relevant state processes. The meeting adjourned at 4:36 p.m.
