The Transportation Committee recommended removing a 124-foot segment of angled parking on Michigan Street and converting it to parallel parking after observing that the street reconstruction no longer supports angled stalls.
Staff reported that the angled markings and geometry predated the street reconstruction; after reconstruction the segment functions as parallel parking. A motion to remove the angle parking was made, seconded and approved by the committee on a 5–0 vote, and the committee will forward the recommendation to the Common Council for final action.
Committee members noted nearby development (an apartment building near Fourth Avenue) and said converting the short segment to parallel parking reflects current street geometry. There was no substantive opposition recorded and no amendments to the motion.
Next step: staff will prepare the recommendation for the Common Council packet for their next regular meeting.
