District introduces owner's representatives, says Jackson project bids reviewed and GMP forthcoming
Summary
West Bend School District introduced Hoffman Kiel Partners and other owner's‑rep team members and heard that bids for the Jackson project have been received; the district will return with a guaranteed maximum price and expects site work to start after sale-related demolition.
The West Bend Joint School District No. 1 introduced Hoffman Kiel Partners (HKP) as the owner’s representative for the Jackson Elementary and high-school projects and heard a progress update on Jan. 12.
HKP project executive Jeff Dusterbeck told the board the firm will act as the district’s eyes and ears on day-to-day construction matters and will coordinate with district leadership and the construction manager-at-risk, Findorff. "My role on the project will really, first and foremost, letting Jen and Tim do their day job and let us focus on the referendum, and really be the eyes and ears for the district," Dusterbeck said.
HKP representatives introduced themselves: Michelle Hammerling will manage budget and schedule; Alex Crowley will provide site reports; and Mike Huffman will provide program support. The team said Jackson project plans have been submitted for state review, the project was out to bid, and the Findorff and design teams are evaluating trade packages. The district expects the HKP/Findorff team to bring back a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) after bid reviews.
On the Jackson site, administration noted the board-approved sale of the above‑ground metal portion of the former DPW building may allow removal to begin in the coming weeks, which would clear work areas ahead of construction mobilization. Other projects—Silverbrook and Badger—are also out for public bid, with bids due Jan. 28, and are slated to mobilize at the end of the school year.
Board members said they appreciate the hands‑on presence from HKP and Findorff and asked staff to flag any unusual or high‑risk items as the GMP is developed. The district emphasized continued public updates as the GMP and subcontractor selections are finalized.
Next steps: HKP will return to the board after bid evaluations with recommended subcontractors and a proposed GMP; staff will update the board on any demolition scheduling tied to the site sale.
