Larry Hadley presented an overview of the Capital Improvement Committee's role and recent work, telling the board the committee meets monthly (second Monday) to review projects and recommend actions to the board.
Hadley summarized last year's emergency repairs — roof and boiler failures at multiple schools — that he said "totaled a little over $6,000,000." He described completed projects (a vestibule at Bonneville High School, replacement boilers and air handlers, and auditorium seating upgrades at Fremont) and listed upcoming work including repiping at Country View, boilers at Washington Terrace and Majestic, resurfacing at Fremont's track and tennis courts and an engineering effort to replace two 'mammoth' air-handling units at Bonneville.
Hadley discussed a district-wide door-replacement program, saying his May estimate showed about $2,400,000 available but replacing every door would cost roughly $14,000,000; he said an architect is auditing the approximately 687 doors across district high schools to scope phased replacement and that some vendors are reluctant to bid on so many hollow-metal doors at once. He also said the team completed three walkthroughs with the fire marshal that day to ensure compliance with new safety mandates.
Hadley said the Capital Improvement Committee does not decide projects but executes work after the superintendent and board determine a plan, and noted the committee is coordinating with safety and risk managers and the state on compliance steps.
Next step: administration will return more detailed project-level plans, phased timelines and procurement strategies for board consideration.
