NVTA staff presented the authority's 2026 report and the newly adopted Bus Rapid Transit action plan, noting $883 million committed to five routes and a total of $5 billion in regional investments to date.
The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority presented its 2026 annual report and highlighted a recently adopted Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) action plan during the authority’s annual meeting. NVTA communications staff said the packet is intended as an accessible guide for members, legislators and the public.
Ms. Hilaridge, NVTA Communications and Public Affairs Manager, reviewed the report’s membership map, program structure and the “Moving NOVA Forward” summary that NVTA staff use to show how projects are funded and advanced. She said the authority has committed $5,000,000,000 toward multimodal investments across the region and cited $883,000,000 tied to five BRT routes as an initial implementation step.
Ms. Hilaridge told members that the report breaks programmatic steps into clear stages and uses primary‑mode classifications to show investments while acknowledging multimodal linkages. She said the authority worked with a local printer to produce a public handout and encouraged members to distribute copies.
NVTA Chief Executive (reported in meeting materials) offered to brief local governing bodies and transportation committees on next steps for BRT implementation and stressed regional coordination with WMATA, Maryland and the District on the broader corridor work. Staff said NVTA will continue outreach to CAOs and offer briefings to jurisdictions interested in tracking route inclusion in comprehensive plans and mobility and transit plans.
Members asked no substantive questions during the presentation; staff indicated additional background materials and project status updates are available in the meeting packet.
