Pelham Public Library wins readers' award, logs record summer reading minutes

Tamika Wilson Lewis, President of the Pelham Public Library Board, told the City Council on Nov. 17 that the library enjoyed a strong year of engagement and recognition. “This past year has been an exceptional one for the library,” Wilson Lewis said, and highlighted two accomplishments: record-setting participation in the summer reading program and an accolade from Birmingham Parent Magazine.
Wilson Lewis said the library’s summer reading program logged more than 100,000 minutes of reading through the Beanstack app, with especially strong teen participation. She added that the Pelham Public Library was voted “best public library” for readers by Birmingham Parent Magazine, a community-driven recognition.
Mary Campbell, the library director, thanked the council and staff, noting the library’s success traces to years of commitment and to continued support from the city. Council members congratulated the library board and staff and emphasized the library’s role in fostering literacy and lifelong learning.
No policy, budget changes, or additional funding requests were presented during the recognition; the remarks were presented as part of council recognitions and community updates.
