Residents press GMX and FDOT over ramp alignment; 170th Bridge access and truck rules remain contested

Summary
Residents raised noise, property‑value and safety worries about a proposed ramp landing near backyards and discussed enforcement of truck restrictions on the 170th bridge; staff urged organized written comments at GMX workshops and said FDOT will consider design iterations.
At the town hall, multiple residents urged the town and regional planners to change proposed ramp alignment for the Gratny/Grama (GMX) Expressway after seeing workshop drawings that would put a ramp well within yards of private properties.
Maria Borges, who provided an address, said the proposed off-ramp would land about 100 yards from her backyard and would require moving a canal. "It's ridiculously close, and we'd like to know if there's any way they can change where that ramp is gonna come off at," she said. Vice Mayor and staff encouraged neighbors to file written comments at the GMX workshops and to organize local businesses and condo owners to demonstrate community concern; staff reported engineers will add alternative landings to the list of iterations under consideration.
Council and staff also discussed the 170th Street bridge that opened in recent years. Councilman Sanchez said he had written a letter supporting on-ramps to I‑75 (on-ramps only) and that the FDOT PD&E study is underway; he noted federal sign-offs will be required for interstate access. The town described a multi-stage PD&E → design → construction sequence and said shortlisted proposers will be selected to do the PD&E work.
Residents also raised semitruck traffic over the 170th bridge. The town noted signage and regulations distinguish "no through trucks" from a blanket "no trucks" restriction; Lieutenant Eddie Ulloa and staff said enforcement resources are limited and periodic county enforcement operations (ticketing) occur, but consistent 24‑hour coverage is not feasible.
Town officials said the bridge and ramp subjects involve multiple jurisdictions—Hialeah, Miami‑Dade County, FDOT and the town—and urged residents to stay engaged in GMX public comment processes, submit written feedback and attend follow-up meetings where alignment iterations will be reviewed.
