Council approves budget amendment, ARPA modifications and property sale; approves multiple appointments

Luzerne County Council completed several routine and substantive actions during its Jan. 13 voting session, approving a budget amendment, multiple American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) project modifications, a property sale and a set of board and committee appointments.
Budget and ARPA: The council adopted an ordinance amending the 2025 fiscal-year budget to add funds for the Luzerne County Human Services Grant; the roll call showed an affirmative vote. Resolutions modifying ARPA awards for the Beaver Brook Association, Sawyersville Parks & Recreation Board and Wyoming Borough were adopted; the Beaver Brook item was recorded as unanimous.
Property sale: Council authorized the county manager to execute an agreement of sale with YMSF Family Partnership LP for real property at 100 West Broad Street in Hazleton. Council discussed the sale on the question and approved the motion by roll call.
Appointments and committees: Council opened nominations and adopted a sequence of resolutions appointing representatives to the Conservation District board, the planning commission, the Greater Hazleton CAN DO board and other authorities and panels. Several council-member committee assignments were announced, including membership and vice-chair roles for budget/finance/audit, real estate and legislative committees.
Other administrative items: Council approved its 2026 meeting schedule and took routine actions such as approving minutes and certifying farmland-preservation interest for program-year 2026 (about $41,639 in interest). The work session included discussion of a master agreement amendment with Central Square Technologies for mobile data terminals (CAD) and a discussion of a partnership agreement with Lackawanna County for airport operations.
What’s next: Several of these items (notably the new division and the election-worker ordinance) were introduced for later action or review; others (budget amendment, ARPA changes, property sale and appointments) were adopted and will proceed to implementation.
