Quincy board approves special-use permits for Lunar New Year and August Moon festivals

Philip Chong, representing Quincy Asian Resources, told the board the Lunar New Year festival will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, at North Quincy High School from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the August Moon Festival will be held Sunday, Aug. 16, on Coddington Street in Quincy Center from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Lunar New Year will be scheduled on Sunday February 22 at North Quincy High School,” Chong said.
The events, described by Chong as longstanding community cultural celebrations, will include performances and vendor booths. Chong said the Lunar New Year celebration has been running for decades and the August Moon Festival is likewise a recurring summer street festival.
A board member moved to approve the request, a second was recorded, and the motion passed by voice vote. The board did not record individual roll-call votes in the transcript.
The permits cover the dates and hours announced; the board did not list additional conditions on the record. The board moved on to other agenda items after approving the request.
