Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission approves consent certificates and minutes; conflicts and abstentions noted

Chair Marie Bjornberg called the Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission to order on Jan. 13 and confirmed a nine-member quorum. Commissioner Masten moved to approve the meeting agenda; the motion carried by voice vote.
The commission approved the minutes from the Dec. 2, 2025 meeting after a motion from Commissioner Alexander and a second from Commissioner Thomas. Chair Bjornberg registered an abstention on the minutes; the chair announced the minutes were approved.
Two applications were placed on the consent agenda: Item 4, 728 3rd Street North, Unit 100 (Ward 3), and Item 5, 143 19th Street West (Ward 6). Chair Bjornberg opened and then closed the public hearing on those consent items after hearing no public opposition.
Commissioner Melblum moved to approve staff findings and recommendations for the consent items; Commissioner Wallace seconded. Commissioner Corrado disclosed a conflict of interest on item 5, and Commissioner Alexander disclosed a conflict on item 4. The voice vote approved the consent items; Commissioners Alexander and Gerardo registered abstentions. The chair stated applicants may contact planning staff about next steps the following day.
The commission recorded no other formal motions or referrals during the Jan. 13 session. The chair announced the next regular meeting for Jan. 27 and adjourned the session.
